RRSO Academy

The RRSO U8 Academy Program

I don't believe skill was, or ever will be, the result of coaches.  It is a result of a love affair between the child and the ball.

- Manny Schellscheidt -- famous US youth soccer coach.

Who can participate?

Boys and girls who will turn seven (7) or eight (8) years of age during the 2019 calendar year (DOB:  Jan.-Dec 2011/2012.) are eligible to participate.  We will also consider boys and girls who will turn six (6) during the current calendar year (DOB:  Jan-Dec. 2013) if they are deemed ready to participate by the Academy Director and the RRSO Board.

When is the Academy season?

The Academy program includes a fall, winter, and spring component with built in breaks during several holidays.  Registration remains open and new players can join anytime.

Where/When are practices/games?

Practices will be held on Thursdays, from 5:00-6:00, during the Fall 2018 Session at Martin Park, beginning on August 30th.  During the winter, practices are held at the Force Indoor Sports Facility in Rocky River. These will be held from 5:00-6:00 on Tuesdays beginning December 5th. In the Spring, practices will again be held at a location TBD.  Game days for Fall 2018 will be Sundays, 9:15-10:15 a.m., at various locations on the West Side.  The first is scheduled for Sunday, September 9th at Learwood Middle School in Avon Lake. Other locations include Root Road Soccer Complex in North Ridgeville, St. John's Hospital in Westlake, and Linden Park in Rocky River.  During the winter, various Play Days will be scheduled as opportunities arise. Likewise, if there is interest, RRSO will enter academy teams in the Force Winter League and the Westlake Invitational and/or NOSO Cup. (For Fall 2018/Spring 2019, these leagues/tournaments are available for players born in 2011/12.)

What is the Academy Program?

The Academy is a young player's introduction to soccer.  Players learn the basic skills of the game through fun yet challenging activities under the guidance of professional coaches.

What is the difference between Academy and other programs?

Academy is player-centered.  The "game" is the main teacher, not coaches.  The aim is to develop self-motivated players who can solve "soccer problems" on their own.

Is the U8 Academy the right choice?

The U8 Academy is for boys and girls who intend to play competitive soccer.  Players must be able to follow instructions, and stay engaged in activities.  Players who are "not ready" will receive a refund, and will be invited to try again the next season.

How do I sign-up/how much does it cost?

You must register to create an account at RRSO.org.  You will then be taken through the sign-in process.  The RRSO Academy costs $200.  The Academy is designed as a year-long program with a Fall, Winter, and Spring component.

Is there anything else I should know?

The Academy will also provide "a la carte" opportunities to participate in tournaments and league play.  During the winter session, the Academy will enter teams into an indoor league.  We will also enter teams into tournaments during the course of the year.  The league and tournament fees will be determined and charged as those events happen.

Who should I contact if I have questions?

RRSO's Academy Director is Casey Yandek.  You may contact Casey at [email protected].  You may also contact RRSO's President at [email protected]
