Please note the following important information regarding the upcoming soccer year:

USSF Mandates Change

The United States Soccer Federation ("USSF") has recommended changes for the 2016/2017 soccer season as part of a new Player Development initiative.  The changes include a new age group chart and different small-sided game standards.  For age groups, players will now be identified by the Birth Year rather than the school year.  More specifically, 2008 born players are U9s, 2007 born players are U10s, 2006 born players are U11s, 2005 born players are U12s, 2004 born players are U13s, 2003 born players are U14s, and 2002 born players are U15s.  For small-sided games, U8s will play 4v4, U9s and U10s will play 7v7, U11s and U12s will play 9v9, and U13s, U14s, and U15s will play 11v11.  Age groups are determined by the oldest player on each team.

The implementation of these changes by USSF, US Club Soccer, and the Ohio Travel Soccer League in which we participate remains unclear.  Tab Ramos of USSF, who is heading up the birth year changes, addressed the process of implementing them:

"We are easing into it and working towards it.  Best practices will come into effect next year as we work towards getting everyone ready for 2017 when all these developmental standards will be fully implemented.  Some teams have been together for a couple of years already so the goal is to make the change without disrupting too much.  At this point, clubs have to decide on their own how they manage the transition over the next year and a half or so."

RRSO is considering how to manage the transition.  The RRSO Board has formed a working committee to evaluate the USSF mandated changes and how to implement them to our particular organization.  Every soccer organization has unique challenges.  We will proceed in the manner that best suits our soccer club to implement the change without too much disruption.

Evaluation and Team Placement

According to our By-Laws, the Rocky River Soccer Organization's sole purpose is to provide opportunity for its players to play soccer at competitive levels against teams from other communities.  RRSO is not a Recreation Soccer program.  We are a competitive soccer program that strives to promote soccer in our community.

In order to play soccer at competitive levels, player evaluation is necessary to determine team placement.  In addition to game evaluations and coach evaluations, RRSO will conduct player evaluations AFTER registration closes on May 31 during the first two weeks of June.  The specifics of player evaluations will be communicated to you as soon as possible.  But plan on participating in player evaluations during the first two weeks of June.

Team placement announcements will be made before July 31, 2016.  Players who are not placed on a team will receive a refund.

We look forward to an exciting 2016-2017 season in RRSO.
